With hard work, dedication and perseverance, campers at the Tri-Company Youth Academy spend the week in the classroom and on the fire training grounds learning fire science and behavior, search & rescue, thermal imaging camera techniques, vehicle extrication & rescue, knots and ropes. They learn how to put up and climb ladders and participate in aerial operations. All campers will have the opportunity to extinguish real controlled fires with fire extinguishers and fire hose supplied by fire engines that they hook up to hydrants. They will learn first aid and CPR techniques that can save lives and give them the confidence to help others in need. Most importantly, they learn teamwork.
On the last day of class, in front of their family members and their community they put it all together as the crew of the fire trucks. The campers put out the fire, supply the fire engines with water, perform search & rescue, locate the trapped victims and bring them out to safety, performing CPR to save them.
The instructors are all firefighters with East Windsor Fire Company #2, Hightstown Engine Company #1 and East Windsor Fire Company #1. We are with them every step of the way. We provide firefighting gear and equipment. Lunch is provided every day, as well as plenty of water throughout the day to keep the campers well hydrated. Each camper will receive a tee shirt, I.D. tag and on the last day they are presented with a Tri-Company PAL Youth Fire Academy graduation book that includes photos and memories of their week at the Academy.
